Mike Holt and Carl Smit win 2017 SAP 5O5 World Championship
With a race to spare Mike Holt and Carl Smit win the 2017 SAP 5O5 World Championship, regaining the crown that they had lost 12 months earlier in Weymouth. In an event that had all conditions from 5 knots to 20 knots, they were the only team to win two races and count a 5th as their worst result. Runners up were the reigning Champions Mike Martin and Adam Lowry with British team of Andy Smith and Roger Gilbert rounding out the podium.
Severn Sailing Association and Eastport Yacht Club in Annapolis, Maryland, USA jointly hosted the SAP sponsored event with 89 boats entered. Principal Race Officer Sandy Grosvenor and her team were tested mightily by the condition but managed to pull off an 8 race series.
